At the emergency meeting held at 5:00 pm on Friday, July 16th, the Beaufort County Board of Elections approved the extension of the filing period for the Aurora Commissioners Contest. The extension will begin at 8:00 am on Monday, July 19th, 2021 and end at 5:00 pm on Friday, July 23rd, 2021. GS 163-294.4 states that if in a nonpartisan municipal election, when the filing period expires, candidates have not filed for all offices to be filled, the board of elections may extend the filing period for five days. There has only been one person file for Aurora Town Commissioner and two seats are available. The extension only applies to the Aurora Commissioner Contest. All others closed today at 12 noon today.
