Five members of the Beaufort County Board of Elections were sworn in on July 20^th, 2021. Four of the five members of election boards in all 100 counties were appointed the state board in early February — two Democrats and two Republicans. The chairman of each county’s Board of Elections was appointed by the Governor.

The Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act or “UOCAVA” requires states to allow certain voters who are absent from their county of residence to have special rights that provide an expedited means for them to register and vote by mail-in absentee ballot. In order to qualify under the provisions of UOCAVA in this state, a voter must be a legal resident of North Carolina.

At the emergency meeting held at 5:00 pm on Friday, July 16^th, the Beaufort County Board of Elections approved the extension of the filing period for the Aurora Commissioners Contest.

The Beaufort County Board of Elections will have an emergency meeting at 5 pm today, July 16^th, 2021 at the Beaufort County Board of Elections at 1308 Highland Drive, Suite 104, Washington, NC, 27889. GS 163-294.4 allows that if in a nonpartisan municipal election, when the filing period expires, candidates have not filed for all offices to be filled, the board of elections may extend the filing period for five days.

The Beaufort County Board of Elections will a conduct a simulated election test of Election Systems and Software’s voting equipment system as required by N.C.G.S. 163-165.9(b)(3). The simulated election test will begin at 12:30 pm on Thursday, May 20^th, 2021 at the Board of Elections Office. Simulated Elections can take between 2 to 4 hours to complete. The simulated election is open to the public and we welcome the public to observe the process.

The Beaufort County Board of Elections is starting the process to acquire a new voting equipment system. There are legal requirements that need to be met. The steps are as follows:

Cheri Beasley has requested a hand to eye recount of a random sample of precincts, pursuant to G.S. § 163-182.7A, in the Supreme Court Chief Justice contest.  The sample is three percent (3%) of the precincts casting ballots in each county, rounded up to the next whole number of precincts.  The State Board conducted the random drawing and Beaufort County will recount the Beaver Dam Precinct. 329 ballots were cast in the Beaver Dam Precinct on Election Day.
